Android Wearables are here to stay, and they will be cooler than ever. Why?

Google Android Wear

Because Google have just announced their Operating System for Android Smartwatches, called Android Wear.

We reported last week, that Google will be releasing an SDK for Android Wearables in two weeks. But looks like Google could not wait to unveil the OS.

Android Wear will have several useful features, including notifications from social apps, chats from messaging apps, shopping, news, etc. The Platform will also have Google Now integration, like we mentioned in the Moto 360 post. This includes the “Ok Google” hotword. You will also be able to connect other devices with your watch, and use it like a remote. Besides notifications, the most important feature of the OS will be the support for health and fitness apps. The platform will allow apps to provide information such as real-time speed, distance and time information on your wrist for your run, cycle or walk.

Google have also announced that a Devleoper preview of Android Wear is now available. If you are a developer and want to make sure your app’s notifications work with Wear, you can download the Preview from the official page.

Google are working with several companies who manufacture Android devices, in order to bring Android Smartwatches. The list of companies they are working with include, Asus, HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung, chip makers Broadcom, Imagination, Intel, Mediatek and Qualcomm; and fashion brand Fossil Group.
