iOS 27.1 is out, but only for the iPhone Duo. On every other iPhone, Software Update still shows iOS 27.0.1 as the latest version. You haven’t missed anything. According to 9to5Mac, Apple is skipping iOS 27.1 for most iPhone models and going straight to iOS 27.2.

Why iOS 27.1 is limited to the iPhone Duo
The Duo ships with iOS 27.1 preinstalled, but it needs a newer 27.1 build during setup. MacRumors says that build’s IPSW file was available from Thursday, October 22. Apple’s security releases page gives the release date as October 23. Per MacRumors, the release notes mention only bug fixes for your iPhone.
The reason for the Duo-only release is speculation for now. MacRumors suggests Apple likely did it to keep Duo-specific features from leaking before launch.
No published CVEs in iOS 27.1
Apple’s security releases page lists iOS 27.1 for the iPhone Duo only, with no published CVE entries. MacRumors goes a step further and says the update has no security fixes. Apple’s page also shows no published CVE entries for iOS 27.0.1, which covers iPhone 11 and later. If MacRumors is right, staying on 27.0.1 doesn’t leave you behind on security.
What to do: wait for iOS 27.2
There’s nothing to install, and no reason to join a beta to chase 27.1. MacRumors and 9to5Mac both expect iOS 27.2 to arrive next week. That timing is their expectation, not a date from Apple. The iOS 27.2 release candidate also runs on the Duo, so every model ends up on the same version.
9to5Mac highlights three iOS 27.2 features worth waiting for. Group FaceTime calls gain Dual Capture, which uses the front and rear cameras at once. That option was previously limited to one-on-one calls. Apple Podcasts gets a split Up Next list, and the Apple TV app adds user profiles on iPhone. Duo owners also get Apple Pencil support in the 27.2 release candidate.
