Galaxy S27+ May Lose UWB, Chinese Certification Filings Suggest

The Samsung Galaxy S27+ may ship without ultra-wideband (UWB), according to Chinese certification listings reported by two outlets. Treat this as a rumor for now, because Samsung has not confirmed the phone’s specs.

According to Android Authority, leaker Abhishek Yadav posted on X that China’s MIIT certifications list UWB for the Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra. The same listings leave it out for the Galaxy S27 and S27+, the outlet says. IT之家 reports the same pattern and cites MIIT’s public certification listing as its source.

Why the Galaxy S27+ UWB detail stands out

The missing UWB on the base Galaxy S27 is no surprise. Android Authority notes that Samsung has always left UWB out of its standard S models.

The Plus is a different case. Plus models have carried UWB since the Galaxy S21+, Android Authority says. IT之家 makes the same point about Samsung’s big-screen models.

IT之家 also reports that all four Galaxy S27 models passed MIIT certification recently. In that listing, only the Pro and Ultra are marked as supporting UWB.

What S27+ buyers would lose if the listing holds

UWB powers precision finding on trackers such as Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag. It guides you to a lost item at close range. Android Authority says UWB gives better precision up close than SmartTag 3’s Bluetooth Channel Sounding. The outlet adds that it is unclear whether the S27+ will support that Bluetooth option at all.

For more on Samsung’s tracker plans, see our report on how Samsung walked back SmartTag3 support for non-Galaxy Android phones. Android Authority also says Google’s upcoming Pixel Tag needs a UWB-equipped Android phone for precision finding through Find Hub.

Hands-free access could be affected too, if the listing reflects the final phone. Samsung Wallet’s Digital Home Key supports hands-free unlocking over UWB on compatible phones and smart locks, per Android Authority. The outlet notes that availability varies by model and region.

Samsung Wallet has separately been expanding its digital car key support, most recently to select Cadillac EVs.

What is still unconfirmed

The listings say nothing about launch timing or pricing. Separately, the S27 Pro and Ultra have been tipped to add DC dimming.

A certification filing is not a final spec sheet. Android Authority itself cautions that these filings do not establish Samsung’s final global specifications. As of October 17, no confirmation from Samsung has surfaced, so the S27+ UWB removal remains a rumor.
