Apple lists a $279 estimated fee for out-of-warranty HomeView repairs, under a category called “Other damage.” The row appears on Apple’s HomeView service and repair page. 9to5Mac, which reported the fee on October 13, says the same estimate applies to either HomeView model.
For scale, the standard Apple HomeView costs $299. That puts the out-of-warranty repair estimate only $20 below the price of a new unit.

What the HomeView repair fee covers
Apple presents the fee in a simple table with three columns: device type, model and estimated service cost. According to 9to5Mac, the fee sits under that single category for now. The outlet notes there’s no breakdown for specific issues, such as a cracked screen or a faulty speaker on the standard model.
If that reading holds, both faults would fall under the same $279 row. A buyer has no way to tell from the table whether a small fault costs less.
9to5Mac also points out that Apple hasn’t said whether the fee pays for a full replacement unit or a repair to individual parts. That changes what you actually get back for your money. Apple’s page adds that the fees are estimates for out-of-warranty service from Apple and may be subject to tax.
The same page also mentions unlimited repairs for drops and spills. That line appears after Apple’s AppleCare text, so it likely refers to a paid AppleCare plan. The context is unclear, so don’t read it as part of the standard warranty.
Why a flat fee deserves a question
One price for many kinds of damage is easy to read, but it gives buyers little to plan with. A minor fault and a smashed display appear to cost the same. The fee also sits close to the price of a new unit. If you ever need out-of-warranty service, ask Apple whether $279 means a replacement or a repair before you agree to it.
These are US prices as reported. Buyers in India can see our post on the HomeView’s Rs 39,900 India price. Indian repair fees weren’t part of this report.
