Oklahoma Driver License in Google Wallet: Digital ID Now Available

Oklahoma joined the Google Wallet digital ID program last week. Eligible residents can now add a Driver License or State ID to the app on an Android phone. Service Oklahoma published its formal announcement on October 7, 2026. The Google Wallet side went live a couple of days earlier, with 9to5Google first reporting it on October 5. Oklahoma is the 13th state or territory to support digital ID in Google Wallet, per 9to5Google’s count.

Where the Oklahoma digital ID works

The most useful place is the airport. TSA checkpoints accept it at Tulsa International and OKC Will Rogers International, as well as more than 250 airports across the country. Participating businesses in the state can also verify it using Service Oklahoma’s free Oklahoma Reader app. The Oklahoma Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement Commission has issued guidance letting businesses accept the digital ID for age and identity checks through an ISO-compliant reader.

Service Oklahoma’s release frames the expansion as a question of reach:

“Digital ID becomes more valuable when more Oklahomans can access it and more places are equipped to accept it,” said Diedra O’Neil, Chief Executive of Strategy and Operations. “Expanding to Google Wallet gives more Oklahomans the choice to securely carry and present their identity in a way that works for them.”

How to add your ID to Google Wallet

  1. Open Google Wallet on your Android phone.
  2. Tap Add to Wallet.
  3. Choose IDs and personal info.
  4. Select Oklahoma as the issuing state.
  5. Verify your identity against your physical Driver License or State ID.

What it does not replace

The digital version is optional and does not retire your plastic card. Service Oklahoma is explicit that residents must still carry the physical Driver License or State ID. Anywhere without a compatible reader will still want the card in your hand.

On the privacy side, Google and Service Oklahoma say the credential is stored encrypted on the device. They also say it can only be accessed with your own authentication. The release adds that you can review what a verifier is asking for before you share it. Those are the stated design claims, and androidpure has not independently verified them. A state ID is also about the most sensitive credential you can hand to a phone app. Reading the request screen properly, instead of tapping straight through it, is worth the extra few seconds. We have covered this thread before, including Gemini’s ability to read Google Wallet data.

The other 12 jurisdictions on the list are Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio and Puerto Rico. West Virginia is still listed as upcoming, per 9to5Google, where it has sat since an April 2025 announcement.
