Google has published its October 2026 Google System Release Notes, covering Play services v26.39 and dated October 5. The standout change for most people is in Find Hub, which now responds to an NFC tap. Google’s release notes also list a faster setup flow for new tags, plus an AI-labelling change in the Play Store in India.

Find Hub tags now answer an NFC tap
Per Google’s release notes, you can tap an NFC-equipped Find Hub network tag with your phone to pull up its details and settings. The same tap also helps identify a lost tag. That is useful in two directions.
If a tag is in your hand but you cannot remember which bag or key set it belongs to, a tap tells you. And if you find someone else’s tag, the tap gives you a way to identify it without hunting through the app. Removing the menu-digging step is the sort of small fix that decides whether a tracker gets used at all. We looked at another recent Find Hub addition in our guide to the Remembered tab and how to use it.
Setting up a new tag takes fewer steps
Find Hub’s registration flow has been reworked as well. Google says you can now set categories, rename a tag and configure features such as Left-Behind Reminders during initial setup. Previously those were things you went back and adjusted in the app afterwards.
Play Store labels AI-generated images in India
Google Play Store v53.5 shipped on the same date. With it, AI-generated images in India will carry an AI label, with some exceptions the release notes do not spell out. The direction is right, and labelling is more useful than nothing.
Still, an unspecified exceptions list limits how much a shopper can rely on the absence of a label. Treat a missing label as inconclusive rather than as proof a human made the image.
The rest of it, in brief
- Play Store review stats: you can now see your global influence, including total views and helpfulness votes on your reviews.
- Android Automotive: new OEM Design Tokens let manufacturers customise the colour themes of Google apps in the car. This is a tool for carmakers, not a setting you will find.
- Android System Intelligence B.29 and C.7: dated October 1, with bug fixes and no new features.
When you will actually see it
Everything above is what Google’s changelog lists as shipping in this release cycle. It is not a guarantee that each item is live on your phone today. Play services updates arrive in the background and roll out in stages, so a given feature can take a while to surface. If the NFC tap does nothing yet, check your Play services version before assuming something is broken.
