Pixel 11 owners are reporting that Google Maps becomes close to unusable on Android Auto. The complaints cover the Pixel 11, the Pixel 11 Pro and the Pixel 11 Pro XL. They describe freezing, flickering and dropped frame rates while navigating. Google has responded to affected users on its own support forum, but there is no fix and no timeline.

What the glitching looks like
The reports are consistent across the Android Auto support community. Maps either fails to load at all or renders badly once it does. Android Authority describes what users are seeing as “pixelated black static” covering parts of the map.
Other symptoms include the map freezing mid-route, visible flickering, and a frame rate low enough to make panning feel broken. It happens over both wired and wireless Android Auto connections, so swapping cables is not a workaround.
Notably, the rest of Android Auto appears to hold up. Users report that the YouTube Music panel and navigation overlays behave normally while the map itself falls apart. That points at Maps rendering rather than at the Android Auto host.
Why this is more than an annoyance
A glitching navigation app is a driving problem, not a software complaint. Static and flicker on the dashboard screen pull a driver’s eyes off the road at the wrong moment. A map that freezes mid-junction is worse, because it leaves you guessing a turn.
Android Police’s advice is the sensible one here. If your Pixel 11 is doing this, switch to a different mapping app on Android Auto until a fix lands. Losing Maps’ feature set is a smaller cost than fighting a broken display while moving.
What Google has said
On the Android Auto support forum, a Community Specialist said the freezing Maps issue had been passed to the team for investigation. Google’s PixelCommunity account has also reached out directly to several affected users on Reddit, asking them to continue troubleshooting over chat. Android Police counted two separate replies acknowledging the problem.
None of that is a fix commitment. Google’s replies carry no timeline and no stated cause. Pixel 11 owners are left with an acknowledged bug and no resolution window. For buyers who paid flagship prices this cycle, that is a thin answer.
Possible partial relief
Some users on beta builds of Maps and Android Auto report milder symptoms. The glitching does not go away entirely, so this is not a solution, and beta channels bring their own instability. One Reddit poster also noted their Pixel 9a did not show the problem. That is a single anecdote rather than evidence the bug is confined to the Pixel 11 line.
