Apple’s India store has put rupee tags on the new phones, and it has quietly made last year’s iPhones more expensive at the same time. iPhone 18 Pro now starts at ₹1,64,900. iPhone Duo starts at ₹2,99,900. The iPhone 17, 17e, Air and 16 all cost more than they did on this same store a week ago.

That India pricing was missing from Apple’s first-night launch posts. It is on apple.com/in/shop/buy-iphone now. Hardware and US dollar prices are already on our iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo launch stories; this one is the rupee sheet, plus the last-gen hike.
New iPhone prices in India

No Cost EMI for up to six months and up to ₹7,000 instant cashback show on eligible cards. Those are Apple’s current promo footnotes, not a permanent discount. Trade-in credit on the same page goes up to ₹81,500 for an iPhone 17 Pro Max, or up to ₹40,000 on a listed Android.
Older iPhones cost more than they did last week
Apple did not issue a separate “we are raising prices” note. The India shop simply moved. Compared with Apple India’s own buy-iPhone page as it stood on 8 September, before the event:
- iPhone Air — ₹1,19,900 → ₹1,49,900 (256GB), up ₹30,000
- iPhone 17 — ₹82,900 → ₹99,900 (256GB), up ₹17,000
- iPhone 16 — ₹69,900 → ₹89,900 (128GB), up ₹20,000
- iPhone 17e — ₹64,900 → ₹79,900 (256GB), up ₹15,000
iPhone 17 Pro / Pro Max, which started at ₹1,34,900 last week, are gone from the India shop now that 18 Pro is the flagship.
The same move landed in the US: Apple’s store now lists iPhone 17 from $899, iPhone Air from $1,099, iPhone 17e from $699 and iPhone 16 from $799 — $100 above those models’ previous US starting prices.
What that means if you were waiting
The “buy last year’s iPhone and save” path just got narrower. An iPhone 17 at ₹99,900 is no longer a comfortable step below ₹1 lakh, and the Air at ₹1,49,900 sits close to where many Android flagships already live. If you still want a 17 or 16, check a retailer that has not restickered old stock — Apple’s own site already has.
iPhone 18 Pro pre-orders open 12 September at 5:30 PM IST. Duo buyers have until mid-October to decide whether ₹2,99,900 for a first-wave foldable is the purchase, or whether a Galaxy Z Fold 8 / Pixel-class Android fold still does the job for less.
Prices above are Apple India’s listed MRP today. Confirm the configurator before you pay; cashback and EMI change the monthly number, not the sticker.
