Apple Sets 9 September Event, With a Foldable iPhone Expected

Apple has confirmed its autumn event for Wednesday, 9 September at 10:00 a.m. Pacific — 1:00 p.m. Eastern, 6:00 p.m. UK, and 10:30 p.m. IST. The company’s events page carries the tagline “Surprise and shine.” and the streaming details, and The Verge reports the event will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater on the Apple Park campus, with invitations sent to media on Wednesday.

Apple’s own wording is all it has committed to so far:

“Watch a special Apple Event on 9/9 at 10 a.m. PT. Tune in at apple.com or on the Apple TV app.” — Apple, apple.com/apple-events

What the Apple September 9 event is expected to bring

Everything past the date is expectation, not confirmation, and it is worth keeping that line clear. MacRumors expects the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and the foldable iPhone — which it says could be called the iPhone Ultra — all running Apple’s A20 Pro chip on a 2nm process. It also expects the Apple Watch Series 12 and Watch Ultra 4, possibly a home hub, a new Apple TV 4K and an updated HomePod mini, plus release dates for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.

Two of those expectations matter to Android buyers more than the rest.

A foldable iPhone lands in a category Android has had to itself

Android makers have been shipping book-style foldables since 2019, and by now the hard parts — crease, hinge durability, app scaling, weight — have been fought over across several generations of hardware. The Verge notes that a photo of an apparent dummy unit points to a wide form factor closer to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 than to earlier, narrower designs, which is the same shape Xiaomi and Huawei have also moved toward this year. MacRumors describes a device roughly 5.5 inches closed and 7.6 inches open, wider than it is tall, using Touch ID rather than Face ID and going without a telephoto camera because of how thin it is.

If that holds, the interesting question on 9 September is not whether Apple has caught up on hardware but what it does about software — the part Samsung, Google and Honor still handle unevenly, and the part a first-generation device usually gets wrong. It is also worth noting for anyone weighing a foldable purchase this year that Samsung’s own Galaxy Event runs today, 27 August, nearly two weeks ahead of Apple.

The memory shortage is about to show up on price tags again

MacRumors says it expects price increases across the new iPhones because of ongoing memory shortages. Android buyers have already been living with the same squeeze. It sits behind the reported slip of the cheaper iPhone 18 to 2027, and behind Google’s decision this week to set out memory limits for Android apps, which Google itself attributes to hardware supply constraints altering how much memory devices ship with. Whatever Apple charges on 9 September will set a reference point that Android flagship pricing tends to move against.

One claim doing the rounds is worth flagging rather than repeating: SamMobile has described this as the first Apple product launch under a new chief executive, but that rests on a single secondary report, and as of 27 August no confirmation of it from Apple has surfaced. Treat it as unverified.

The keynote streams on apple.com and through the Apple TV app.
