November Security Update for Pixel phones rolls out; Pixel 3 and 3 XL not among the recipients

Google is rolling out the November Security Update for Pixel phones. Let’s find out which phones are receiving the new firmware.

November Security Update for Pixel phones – eligible devices

  • Pixel 3a (XL): SP1A.211105.002
  • Pixel 4 (XL): SP1A.211105.002
  • Pixel 4a: SP1A.211105.002
  • Pixel 4a (5G): SP1A.211105.003
  • Pixel 5: SP1A.211105.003
  • Pixel 5a (5G): SP1A.211105.003
  • Pixel 6: SD1A.210817.036
  • Pixel 6 Pro: SD1A.210817.036

The Pixel 3a and 3a XL are getting the firmware build SP1A.211105.002. Google is seeding the same version to the Pixel 4, 4 XL, and the Pixel 4a. The Pixel 4a 5G model, Pixel 5a, 5a 5G have all been updated to SP1A.211105.003. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro are being updated to build number SD1A.210817.036.

The update is also rolling out to carrier variants for Verizon Wireless, Verizon Wireless MVNOs, Telstra, Optus and Vodafone AU. The version numbers of the carrier packages are slightly different, refer to the official announcement for more details.

A couple of notable absentees among the list are the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

End of support for Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL

Google announced the Pixel 3 and 3 XL in 2018 with Android 9 out of the box, and the devices were updated to Android 10, 11, and recently got the Android 12 update. According to the official support page by Google, the software update support for the Pixel 3 and 3 XL ended in October 2021. This means it won’t get future OS upgrades or security updates.

The Pixel 3A and 3A XL will receive Android version updates and security updates until May 22nd of 2022. Google will end support for the Pixel 4 & Pixel 4 XL in October 22. The Pixel 4a and 4a 5G will reach end of life in August and November 2023, respectively. The search giant will deliver the last update for the Pixel 5 in October 2023, while the Pixel 5a 5G will continue to receive updates until August 2024.

Google’s most recent phones, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will receive Android OS upgrades till October 204, and continue to receive security updates until October 2026.
