Samsung has officially announced today, that it is halting the Note 7 sales and exchange program, globally. This is not very surprising, as yesterday, we wrote about a report by two news agencies, which said that Samsung would be halting the production of its disastrous Note 7, which has caused multiple fires around the globe.

Earlier, two mobile carriers in the U.S, namely AT&T and T-Mobile announced that they would stop selling the Galaxy Note 7, and instead they would be exchanging the device for a different phone of the customer’s choosing. This was followed by similar moves from Sprint Mobile and Best Buy.

Samsung’s official statement states the following:

We are working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note7. Because consumers’ safety remains our top priority, Samsung will ask all carrier and retail partners globally to stop sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note7 while the investigation is taking place.

This matches with a previous report, which said that consumer safety regulators from the US, China and Korea had asked Samsung to work with them on the issue. While the company has not mentioned it, the report said that the production of the phones itself have been suspended temporarily. Samsung has asked all Note 7 users, regardless of  whether you have the original Note 7, or the replacement Note 7, to power down the devices immediately. This highlights the seriousness of the issue.

There is no official word, on whether the Note 7 has been discontinued permanently, although rumours around the internet claim that this is likely.
