Barely a week after adding support for Password & Autofill sync, Chrome Beta for Android has been updated with some important features.

Chrome Beta

The browser now has a simpler search, works in fullscreen mode on phones and shows your tab history on tablets.

Fullscreen browsing

The Fullscreen mode has probably been added to make browsing on a phone a better experience, as many people would find that the toolbar takes up precious space on small screen devices.

Here are a couple of screenshots we took on our Nexus 4.

The toolbar should dissapear when you scroll down on the webpage you are on.

Simpler Searching:

The omnibox, aka the address bar search will now display the search query. This way you can edit your query to get better results.

Tab history on tablets:

This feature will be useful for long browsing sessions or those in which you opened manywebsites in the same tab. Just long press on the back button to display your tab history.

Here is the official change log:

Fullscreen on phones – Scroll down the page and the toolbar will disappear.
Simpler searching – Searching from the omnibox will keep your search query visible in the omnibox, making it easier to edit, and show more on your search result page.
Client-side certificate support – You can now access sites that require you to use a certificate and Chrome will allow you to select an installed certificate
Tab history on tablets – Long press the browser back button to view your tab history

Unfortunately there are still quite a few issues with the browser.  But hey it’s a beta. Find an issue? Report it to them.

Known Issues:

Noticeable lag in text entry on some text fields
chrome://history sometimes show duplicate items
Opening tabs is sometimes slow
Pages may flicker sometimes, especially during navigation
