Reports have emerged suggesting that the South Korean electronics giant, Samsung, are in talks with Nuance Communications,
Nuance are the developers behind the Swype Keyboard, and the Voice Recognition Engine used by Apple’s Siri.
According to a news article by the Wall Street Journal, Nuance are negotiating talks with several private equity firms. The company develops imaging applications, and speech recognition technology used in various gadgets such as Smartphones, GPS systems, and Smart TVs. Their technology is also integrated in the Samsung S-Voice app.
This is not the first time Nuance have made the headlines about being acquired by an electronics OEM. Last year, a deal with Apple fell through, and Nuance has reported a net loss in the last six months, which could be the driving reason for the possible acquisition by Samsung.
Interestingly, Apple’s iOS 8 update is all set to bring support for third party keyboards, and the one featured at their website clearly has the Swype icon on the bottom left row of the keyboard.
Nuance is headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts.
