Firefox is an excellent browser when it comes to privacy. However, the open source app comes with some annoying speed dials on the new tab page. Here is how to remove sponsored shortcuts in Firefox for Android.
How to remove sponsored shortcuts in Firefox for Android
1. Open Firefox and tap on the menu button.
2. Tap on the “New tab” option.
3. You should see 3 or 4 shortcuts on the screen, with a pin icon next to them. This indicates the options are permanently available via the new tab page.
4. Long press on one of the shortcuts, and tap on the option that says “Remove”. The icon will be deleted.
5. Repeat the above steps for the other 2 shortcuts. You may notice that one shortcut (Amazon), cannot be removed this way.
6. Long press on the sponsored shortcut, and tap on Settings. It will take you to the Homepage settings. You may also access this section from Firefox > Menu > Settings > Homepage.
7. Uncheck the option that says “Sponsored shortcuts”.
This will remove the irremovable option from the speed dial.
Now you know how to remove sponsored shortcuts in Firefox for Android. But how to add your own shortcuts to the new tab? That’s quite easy. Visit any website that you want to add a speed dial for. Tap on the Firefox menu button, and select “Add to shortcuts”. This can be useful to access your favorite websites quickly without typing the URL every time. You can long press on a shortcut to rename it, or to open it in a private tab.
