Sometimes when an app is not working properly, the only way to fix it is to uninstall it and download it again. Another thing you can try is to delete the app’s files. Let us show you how to clear app data and cache on Android phones.
Make sure you are connected to a Wi-Fi or mobile network before proceeding. This is important because clearing an app’s data and cache will sign you out of your account. You will need to log in again to use the app.
How to clear app data and cache on Android
1. Open the Settings app in your phone.
2. Tap on Apps > See All.
3. Scroll down the page to find the app that you want to clear the data and cache of.
5. Tap on the app’s name, and then on Storage and cache.
Your phone will display two options: Clear All Data and Clear Cache.
The first option, Clear All Data, erases all data that is associated with the app, including the cache. The other option, Clear Cache, does not log you out of the app, it merely clears the cached content (images, cookies, history, web cache, etc.)
The 2nd step in the above process can differ slightly, depending on which phone you have. Samsung Galaxy mobile users can go to Settings > Apps > “App Name” > Storage. MIUI users (Xiaomi, Redmi, Poco) will need to navigate to the Settings > Manage Apps > App Name > Storage.
How to clear app data and cache on Android from your app drawer
There are two more ways to do this, you can long press on an app’s icon in the app drawer and select app info, to view its settings and clear the data and cache from there. The same gesture works with icons placed on your home screen too.
Clearing an app’s data and cache can also help you recover storage space on your phone. That can come in handy if an app is using a lot of space, which could in turn prevent the Google Play Store app from downloading app updates.
