An Apple and ADT partnership is being rumored ahead of Tuesday’s smart home event. MacRumors’ Joe Rossignol reported on October 10 that the home security firm has been hiring technicians for a secretive new role. The evidence is entirely circumstantial. As of October 11, neither Apple nor ADT has confirmed a deal.

Why ADT might be shopping for a new partner
ADT has run a home security partnership with Google since 2023. Earlier in 2026 it reportedly dropped some of the features it had offered on Google Nest devices. Sources told MacRumors that the Google agreement has either already expired this year, or expires next year without renewal. MacRumors argues that could clear the way for Apple.
If you pay for ADT monitoring wired into Nest cameras, you are the one with something at stake here. A lapsed partnership can mean lost features, swapped hardware, or a different app to live in. As of October 11, neither company has said publicly what it would mean for current subscribers.
The Apple-ADT clues, strongest to weakest
The sharpest detail is the phones. ADT issued iPhones to this batch of new hires, while its other technicians work on Android devices. MacRumors cites that as pointing to Apple specifically. Some of the hires and their managers also signed NDAs, which the outlet reads as typical of Apple’s secrecy.
The rest is softer. ADT has posted Low Voltage Technician listings in various US cities since around July 2026. New hires say they were told almost nothing about the job. Several have simply shadowed existing technicians while waiting for details. One said the explanation was promised for September, then pushed to October. That does line up with Apple’s own delays to the home hub, reportedly tied to Siri’s AI readiness.
Work phones and an NDA are suggestive, not documentary. Plenty of enterprise NDAs cover projects with no Apple involvement at all.
Installation work, or actual monitoring?
Apple has invited media to a Welcome home experience in New York on Tuesday, October 13. Its long-delayed smart home hub is expected to debut there. Some ADT hires were told their role would involve home automation and installation work in customers’ homes. That could simply mean mounting a hub on a wall, or fitting the LG smart home accessories Apple is also tipped to support. Whether any deal would stretch to security monitoring is unclear.
A 2027 camera sits behind all of this
Bloomberg reported last month that Apple is building its own home security camera for 2027, alongside a monitoring service. MacRumors’ Juli Clover relayed it on September 4. The camera would reportedly “use AI to monitor the surrounding environment instead of actual video footage.” That report offered no further detail on how the service itself would work. Apple already runs HomeKit Secure Video for third-party HomeKit cameras, with end-to-end encryption and iCloud storage.
Taken together, the clues describe an installation workforce more clearly than they describe a monitoring deal. MacRumors itself cautions that the whole pattern could turn out to be coincidence. If Tuesday passes with no mention of ADT, that is not a denial. A deal could still surface later, or the clues could prove unrelated.
