Android 17 is now rolling out to the Motorola Razr Ultra (2026) in the US. Derrek Lee (iamDerrekLee), the former Android Central managing editor, spotted it on his own device on October 6. It arrives as build A171WLH.38-19-5 and weighs in at around 4.1 to 4.2GB. Plan for a Wi-Fi connection and some free storage.

One thing to note before you tap install: the security patch level does not move. Motorola’s release notes describe the build as “smarter, safer, and more productive.” The phone still ships with the September 2026 patch. That is a short gap rather than an alarming one. The real story here is features rather than security.
What Android 17 changes on the Razr Ultra
This is a visibly different build rather than a quiet platform bump. Motorola has reworked the icon set and the Settings layout. Several of the additions are new behaviours rather than cosmetics.
- AI Key remapping — a double-press of the AI Key can now be assigned to the Digital Assistant, Motorola Qira or Pay Attention
- Live Updates — redesigned with a Dynamic Island-style interface, close to the iPhone treatment of the same idea
- Notification Summaries — condenses long messages and busy group chats into a short recap
- Pause Point — adds a brief delay before opening apps you are trying to avoid
- HDR intensity slider — a display control for how aggressively HDR content is brightened
- Dismissal haptics — a small vibration when you swipe a notification away, much like a Pixel
One promised feature is missing so far. Motorola’s own August documentation listed Tap to Send as part of this update. The first-hand report says it has not appeared on the device yet. Treat it as pending rather than cancelled. Do not install this update expecting it on day one.
Motorola phones updated so far
The Razr Ultra joins a small group. These models are either on Android 17 already or receiving it this week:
- Motorola Razr Ultra (2026) — rolling out now in the US
- Motorola Edge 70 — updated a few weeks earlier
- Motorola Edge 60 Pro — rolling out this week
- Motorola Edge 60 Fusion — rolling out this week
- Motorola Signature — rolling out this week
Not yet updated: the Razr Fold had not received Android 17 as of October 6. We covered the full list of 50+ Motorola devices slated for Android 17 when the company published it in August.
How to check for it
Razr Ultra owners in the US should look for build A171WLH.38-19-5 in the system update screen. Motorola ships these releases in waves by region and carrier. An empty result today does not mean your unit has been skipped. As of October 7, Motorola has not shared a rollout schedule for the remaining models.
