Samsung’s SmartThings redesign has started reaching Android, after the new look appeared on iPhone first. The update arrives as version 1.8.51.30 and is going out selectively to Galaxy phones and tablets running One UI 9. SamMobile and GSMArena both report the rollout. A Samsung Community thread from a user on One UI 9 names the same version number.

What changed in the SmartThings app
The overall feel is lighter. Samsung has moved to a brighter colour scheme and replaced the old navigation with a compact floating tab bar near the bottom of the screen. The top of the app now carries the controls you reach for most. That means the QR code scanner, location selector, map view, add-device button and settings.
Home tab
Device and routine cards are more compact than before, so more fits on screen without scrolling. A long press expands a card for the full set of controls. Tapping the icon itself toggles a device on or off. That cuts a step out of the most common action in the whole app.
Devices tab
This tab now groups everything by room. The bigger change is layout editing. You can arrange your home in 2D or 3D and place furniture and structural elements. That makes the map view more useful for locating a specific device in a crowded setup.
Android still doesn’t match the iOS version
One difference is worth naming. The Android app does not use the “Liquid Glass” design language Samsung applied to the iOS version of SmartThings. Galaxy owners get the restructured layout without that visual treatment.
The ordering is the part worth questioning. Samsung shipped this redesign to a rival platform first, for Samsung’s own smart home app. Galaxy owners with a house full of SmartThings gear are the core audience for this product, and they waited.
Don’t go looking for it yet
The rollout is gradual and limited. Only Galaxy phones and tablets on One UI 9 are receiving it so far, and not all of them at once. If your app has not changed yet, there is nothing to fix on your end. Staged rollouts like this one usually widen over days or weeks.
To check what you have, open the SmartThings app’s settings and look at the version number. Anything below 1.8.51.30 means the redesign has not reached your device.
Samsung is also folding more control into this app over time, including after the Samsung Sound app shuts down in 2027. A more navigable SmartThings matters more as it absorbs those other functions.
