Pixel 11 Gets a Second Out-of-Cycle Update: Build B1 Explained

Google is pushing a second out-of-cycle update to the Pixel 11 series this week, and this one comes with factory and OTA images you can install manually. If you’re on a Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, or 11 Pro Fold and never got last week’s patch, this new release is the one to grab.

What Changed Between the Two Updates

Google first shipped a September patch on September 1, moving Pixel 11 devices from build CD1A.260714.001.A9 to CD1A.260905.001.A1. That rollout was uneven. Some Pixel 11 Pro, Pro XL, and Pro Fold owners got the roughly-100MB OTA that day, but Google never posted factory or OTA images for it, and reports suggest the update was pulled from wider release at some point.

The new build, labeled B1, fixes that. Google has now posted proper factory and OTA images for manual installation, and anyone who received the earlier A1 update is getting a smaller, roughly 97MB follow-up OTA on top of it. All four Pixel 11 models carry the same “Sep 2026” security label, with an Android security patch level of September 1, 2026 — not September 5, despite the build number.

This Isn’t Android 17 QPR1

It’s easy to assume a mid-cycle Pixel update this close to a quarterly release is the QPR1 update, but it isn’t. Several visual changes expected in Android 17 QPR1 aren’t present in this build, which is still the initial release of Android 17. Google appears to be patching issues discovered since the Pixel 11 launched last month, rather than waiting for the next scheduled quarterly release.

The on-device install screen carries only the standard notice: “This update fixes critical bugs and improves the performance and stability of your device.” Google hasn’t published release notes beyond that, so the specific bugs being fixed aren’t detailed anywhere.

How to Get It

If you already received the September 1 OTA, check for a software update in Settings — the B1 follow-up should arrive as a small, roughly 97MB download. If you never got the original patch, Google’s factory and OTA images are now posted for manual flashing, which is the more reliable route if the automatic rollout skipped your device again. As always with a manual flash, back up your data first since a factory image install wipes the device.
