Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra Gets Off at Amazon, Weeks After Record Sales Claims

The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is now $300 off at Amazon, and the standard Z Fold8 is $250 off, on unlocked models with no contract required. The discounts landed about a month after launch, the same week Samsung published its own U.S. sales figures boasting that the Fold8 lineup is outselling last year’s Fold7 by a wide margin.

Pricing and Availability

Amazon is cutting $300 off every configuration of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and $250 off every configuration of the standard Galaxy Z Fold8, according to Android Police, which tracked the price drop. Both phones ship in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options, and the discount applies regardless of which one you pick.

These are Amazon prices, not a Samsung.com price cut — Samsung’s own site still lists the phones at full price (its checkout pricing didn’t load in a plain page fetch, so a direct comparison wasn’t possible, but nothing on Samsung’s product page suggests a markdown). Amazon is also offering up to $600 in trade-in credit on top of the discount, plus financing for shoppers with an Amazon store card. During preorders, Amazon had bundled a similar $300 discount with a gift card purchase; buyers can now get it applied directly to the phone.

Samsung Says Demand Is Up, Too

Samsung’s own numbers, published the same day as the discount, paint a rosier picture than a price cut usually implies. According to a Samsung Newsroom release, combined Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra purchases in the U.S. are “consistently tracking 30% ahead” of the Z Fold7’s pace, and the two devices now make up roughly 80% of all Galaxy Z series purchases.

“Combined purchases of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Fold8 in the U.S. are consistently tracking 30% ahead of Z Fold7, which set a pre-order record last year.” — Samsung U.S. Newsroom

Samsung also says 30% of Z Flip8 buyers are switching from other brands, and more Z Flip owners than ever are trading up to a Fold8 or Fold8 Ultra. None of these figures come with an absolute unit count, and Samsung hasn’t published independent sales data to verify them — they’re percentages from the company’s own marketing release, not a third-party sales tracker.

Read together, the two stories sit oddly next to each other. A company doesn’t usually need to discount a phone by $300 a month after launch if it’s genuinely outselling last year’s record-setting model by 30%. It’s possible both are true — strong early demand and a retailer discount aren’t mutually exclusive, and Amazon runs promotions on popular phones too. But shoppers reading Samsung’s “record demand” framing shouldn’t assume that means the price has nowhere to go but up.

Specifications

  • Galaxy Z Fold8: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, 12GB/16GB RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB storage, 4,800mAh battery, Android 17 with One UI 9
  • Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, 12GB/16GB RAM, 256GB/512GB/1TB storage, 5,000mAh battery, Android 17 with One UI 9

Both phones are covered by Samsung’s seven-year software update commitment. The Fold8 leans toward a 4:3 open-screen aspect ratio better suited to reading and video, while the Fold8 Ultra keeps the taller, narrower profile Samsung has used on its higher-end Fold variant.
