Samsung has cut the price of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra in the United States, and the size of the cut is unusual for a phone this new. The 256GB model now lists at $1,799.99 on Samsung.com, down from a $2,099.99 launch price that Samsung’s own product page still quotes in its buy bar. That is $300 off a flagship foldable that went on sale roughly a month ago.

The odd part is where that leaves the rest of the lineup. The wide Galaxy Z Fold8, which sits below the Ultra in Samsung’s own hierarchy, still starts at $1,899.99 on Samsung.com. The more expensive foldable is now the cheaper one by $100. Samsung has not restructured the range or announced anything. It has simply discounted the halo device and left the mainstream one alone.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8 pricing in the US
Here is what Samsung’s US store lists at the time of writing. Prices at Amazon and Best Buy track these closely, sometimes rounded down by a dollar.
- Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra — 12/256GB $1,799.99, 12/512GB $1,999.99, 1TB $2,399.99. Launch price for the base model was $2,099.99.
- Galaxy Z Flip8 — 12/256GB $1,049.99, 12/512GB $1,249.99. The Flip8’s own product page still lists it “From $1,199.99,” so the base model is $150 down.
- Galaxy Z Fold8 — 12/256GB $1,899.99, 12/512GB $2,099.99, 1TB $2,499.99. No direct cut here.
Samsung’s Fold8 Ultra buy page also carries a “$350 off without trade-in” banner. 9to5Google reported that credit taking the phone down to $1,749, and also noted the lower price was not showing for every shopper. Treat it as something to check at checkout rather than a guaranteed price.
Why the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra price cut matters
A $300 official cut across Samsung.com, Best Buy and Amazon within about a month of launch is not a retailer clearing stock. It is Samsung moving its own number. 9to5Google’s Ben Schoon read the cut as “a clear signal that the company’s former form factor isn’t resonating as much this year,” and the pricing structure supports that reading: the Ultra needs to undercut the wide Fold8 to move.
That is genuinely good news if you were waiting. It is less good if you pre-ordered. Anyone who bought the base Ultra at launch paid $300 more than a buyer walking in today, about a month later, with no price-protection scheme attached.
There is a second number worth watching, and it works against the discount. Samsung’s trade-in credits have fallen hard since July. 9to5Google’s tracking puts the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at $800 on September 4, down from $1,000 in early August and $1,200 in late July. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has dropped from $1,100 to $550 over the same stretch, and the Galaxy S26 Ultra from $1,200 to $800. Samsung has also capped Fold8 trade-in credits at $800, against $1,200 during the pre-order window. If you are upgrading from an older foldable rather than paying cash, the two numbers pull in opposite directions. The trade-in loss can be the bigger of the two.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is back in stock
Separately, 9to5Google reports Samsung has fully restocked the Galaxy Z Fold8 in the US after early shortages, with every colour and storage variant available on Samsung.com and shipping estimates inside two weeks. The wide model is the one that sold out; the Ultra is the one being discounted. That contrast is most of the story here.
If you are weighing an Ultra at $1,799, factor in what it costs when something goes wrong — our earlier look at Galaxy Z Fold8 screen repair pricing is a useful companion number, because inner-display repairs on foldables are still the expensive part of ownership.
