BGMI Lite Confirmed for India, Launching by the End of 2026

Krafton India has confirmed that BGMI Lite is real and will launch in India by the end of 2026. The announcement, made on 16 August 2026, closes months of speculation about a lighter build of Battlegrounds Mobile India — a game the company says has crossed 260 million downloads in the country. What it does not do is give players a date, a download, or anything to sign up for.

What Krafton actually confirmed about BGMI Lite

The confirmed list is short. BGMI Lite is coming, it is aimed at bringing the game to a wider set of Indian players across a wider range of hardware, and the target window is “by the end of 2026”. That is the entire official position. Krafton India has not announced an exact launch date, a pre-registration date, gameplay features, a download size, or minimum device requirements. All of that, the company says, comes closer to release.

The unstated logic is easy enough to read. Standard BGMI has grown into a demanding title, and India’s largest pool of players is not on flagship silicon — it is on entry-level and mid-range phones, many of them several years old. A Lite build is how a publisher keeps that audience without watering down the main game.

Nothing to download yet — and that is the part worth remembering

An announcement with no date and no build attached is exactly the gap that fake download pages fill. There is no BGMI Lite APK, no official early-access link, and no pre-registration form of any kind at the time of writing. Anything currently offering one of those is not from Krafton. Sideloading a random “BGMI Lite” APK from a search result is a straightforwardly bad idea — at best it is a repackaged old build, at worst it is malware with full access to whatever else is on the phone. When pre-registration does open, it will happen on the Google Play listing and Krafton India’s own channels, and nowhere else.

PUBG Mobile LIGHT is a separate, global product

Arriving alongside the India confirmation is PUBG Mobile LIGHT, the lighter version of the global game. Its pre-registration is scheduled to open on 25 August 2026, with a global launch also targeted for later this year, and the initial download has been described as roughly 1GB on Android and under 2GB on iOS.

Those numbers are worth reading carefully, because they are not India’s numbers. Krafton India’s announcement does not confirm 25 August as the BGMI Lite pre-registration date, and it does not confirm those download sizes for the Indian build. BGMI and PUBG Mobile are separate products in India, and there is no basis yet for assuming the Lite versions will share a timeline or a build size.

What to expect next

The realistic next milestone is a pre-registration opening on Google Play, which is usually where a launch window narrows into an actual date. Until Krafton India posts one, “end of 2026” is a four-month range, and every specific figure circulating about the Indian version — size, requirements, features, release day — is someone’s guess rather than a confirmed detail.
