Honor Robot Phone Launch Set for August 12, Company Confirms

Honor has confirmed that the Honor Robot Phone, the camera flagship with a motorised gimbal camera mounted on a retractable robotic arm, will be unveiled in China on 12 August 2026. The date came from Honor’s own Weibo account, alongside a teaser image showing the phone’s rear camera island, and it ends weeks of speculation about exactly when the most unusual Android phone of the year would land.

What Honor has actually confirmed about the Robot Phone

The confirmed facts are narrow, and worth separating from the leaks. Honor has stated the launch date of 12 August, that the phone will be shown at an imaging-focused event, and that the imaging system has been developed in partnership with Arri, the German cinema camera maker best known for the Alexa cameras used on film sets. Reservations for the device opened in China earlier in July. Honor has also shown the device itself in official teaser imagery, so the design — a very large rear camera island with a gimbal unit that motors out and retracts flush when idle — is no longer in question.

What Honor has not announced is pricing, memory configurations, or anything about availability outside China. Retail listings ahead of the event point to a model number of APH-AN00 and two colours, Star Trail Silver and Moon Shadow Gray, but treat those as unconfirmed until 12 August.

The specifications, still unofficial

The hardware sheet circulating ahead of launch has been consistent for weeks but remains leak-sourced rather than announced. Going by those reports, expect:

  • Main camera: 200MP sensor mounted on the motorised gimbal arm, the phone’s entire reason for existing
  • Telephoto: 200MP periscope
  • Ultrawide: 50MP
  • Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
  • Battery: around 6,000mAh, with a 120W charger reportedly in the box

A separate unboxing video that leaked on Weibo ahead of the event appears to show retail packaging with the phone, a case, a cable and the 120W charger. Unboxing leaks this close to launch are usually accurate, but nothing in that video carries Honor’s confirmation.

Why a robotic arm on a phone is a real question, not just a gimmick

Mechanical camera parts are the single most common long-term failure point on phones that use them — pop-up selfie cameras, the last big moving-parts trend, mostly disappeared for exactly that reason. A motorised gimbal arm is a moving assembly exposed to pocket lint, sand and drops, and it is the component the entire camera system depends on. Honor has not yet published a rated actuation count or an IP rating for the mechanism, and buyers should want both before spending flagship money. The imaging results may well justify the engineering; the durability answer is the one Honor still has to give on 12 August.

Availability

The 12 August event is a China launch. Honor CEO Li Jian said at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai earlier this month that the Robot Phone will launch globally in August, but no specific global date, market list or pricing has been given, and no India launch has been announced. Pricing in China is expected to be disclosed at the event itself.
