When you switch from a phone to another, you may bring your previous data to the new device. Google’s Android OS has an option that allows you to backup the data, that helps in the migration process. If your phone runs on Android 12, you can migrate your WhatsApp chat history from iOS to Android.
The biggest problem with WhatsApp is the way it handles Chat backups. On Android, you are limited to Google Drive as the backup solution, and on iOS, the only option is to use iCloud. If only the Facebook-owned messaging platform allowed users to pick a cloud storage service of their choice. Even better, it would be great to backup the chats to a file.
Well, the latter is sort of what Google is bringing to Android. The search giant worked with WhatsApp to help users transfer their chats to new phones in a secure manner. You will need to connect your iPhone to your Android phone, using a USB Type-C to Lightning cable. Once they are connected, you will need to open WhatsApp > Settings > Chats > Move Chats to Android. This will display a QR code on your iOS device which you can scan with your Android phone to allow it to access and migrate your WhatsApp data.
The Android device will extract SMS and iMessage history, photos, videos, contacts, calendars, etc and copy them over from your iPhone. In addition to this, it will detect apps installed on your iOS handset, and install them on your Android phone using Google Play.
The transfer option was developed by WhatsApp, and was previously available on Samsung Galaxy phones. Google says that WhatsApp chat history is now supported on Pixel phones, though it doesn’t specify if the devices need to be running on Android 12.
But this isn’t exclusive to the two brands, Google says that WhatsApp Chat History will be supported on new phones that launch with Android 12 out of the box.
