Android 10 has been released by Google. In case you missed it, the company stopped naming its mobile operating system after desserts, Android Q is Android 10.

Android 10 features

Android 10 features

Better Privacy Controls

Privacy Controls in Android 10 allow you to manage permissions, account activity and personal data from one place. You can control your data (such as Web and App activity) that is stored by Google, how long it should be stored for, etc. Location control permissions have been fine-tuned to allow apps to use it all the time, only when the app is in use or never. You can also opt out of personalized ads.

Android Security Updates won’t require a reboot

Security Updates is perhaps the best of the Android 10 features. You no longer have to reboot your device to download the updates. Instead, they will be delivered via Google Play, just like an app update. These include privacy fixes as well.

Distraction free mode

Focus mode is sort of an app silencer, which you can use to turn off specific apps temporarily, allowing you to concentrate on something else.

Family Safety

Family Link lets you set a screen time limit for your kids, control the content they access, and monitor their device location.

Improved Gesture Navigation

Gesture Navigation has been improved. Instead of a navbar, you have a white line at the bottom of the screen. Swipe up to go home, swipe left or right to go back. The multitasking view can be accessed by swiping up and holding the finger on the screen. To switch to a different app, swipe up while holding the finger and move it to the right or left.

Smart Action in Smart Reply

Smart Reply has been improved and not only offers suggested responses, but now has a Smart Action, i.e., it lets you perform actions related to a message. For e.g. If you receive a message containing an address, you will see an “Open Maps” option in the notification shade, which you can use to open Google Maps and view the relevant info in a single tap.

Dark Theme

Dark Theme is now a system wide feature, and supports Google apps. It’s easy on the eyes and the battery.

Audio Controls

Sound Amplifier is an equalizer of sorts, which lets you boost the sound volume, fine tune the audio, filter background noise, for a clearer listening experience.

Offline Live Caption

Live Caption is an automatic caption (subtitle) creator, which works even when you are offline. It works with videos, podcasts, audio messages, and content that you record.
