ASUS has announced the Android Q Beta update for Zenfone 5Z. This does seems a bit surprising, but we aren’t shocked considering the amount of OEMs which participated in the Android Pie Beta phase the last time around.

Android Q Beta update for Zenfone 5Z

If you aren’t aware, Google announced the Android Q beta 3 yesterday during the I/O 2019 event.

The beta update from ASUS includes new features such as a system-wide Dark Theme, notification actions, prioritized notifications, and more.

So, if you have a ZenFone 5Z (ZS620KL), and are brave enough to try the beta, read on.

Android Q Beta update for Zenfone 5Z known issues

The current beta version has 2 known issues. Firstly, if you have a microSD card that is formatted in the exFAT file system, it won’t work on your device. Secondly, there is no beep sound played, when the volume rocker keys are used.

Download Android Q Beta update for Zenfone 5Z

Head to the official Google drive link to download the Android Q Beta update for Zenfone 5Z. It is named WW-ZS620KL-10.03.4.52-BSP-user_52-release.zip. At the time of writing the post, you cannot directly download the firmware because it appears the download limit has been exceeded. What you can do is click the “+ add to my Drive” option and it will add the update file to your Google Drive account. You can download it from there. The update is about 1GB in size.

ASUS has published a nice article on how to opt-in to Android Q Beta and install the update, and also how to opt-out and revert back to Android P. We recommend reading it if you need more information.

In case you have missed our Zenfone Max Pro M1 Android Pie Update Review, do check it out. Speaking of which, we weren’t very impressed with the update for the mid-range device. We hope that the Taiwanese company does a better job with the Android Q beta update.
