No in-display fingerprint scanner in Galaxy S9 as Samsung abort plans

Samsung had to abort plans for putting the in-display fingerprint scanner in Galaxy S8 devices due to technical issues and it seems that the company is unable to get rid of those problems even for the upcoming Galaxy S9 devices. A report from Korea suggests that Samsung has decided not to include fingerprint sensors under the screen of its next-generation Galaxy S models, according to local news reports on Nov 8. Thanks to this setback, Samsung is likely to place the fingerprint scanner on the rear panel of the Galaxy S9 and its larger-sized variant S9 Plus, just like the preceding models.

Samsung is trying hard to put in-display fingerprint scanner instead of using the Home button, but with increasing screen to body ratio of the flagship displays leave very little room to place sensors modules which were easily placed inside bezels of earlier devices. Yet, Samsung is still trying to fix these technical problems and if fixed, we may see the in-display fingerprint scanner in Galaxy Note 9 which is codenamed as “Crown” for the development phase.Galaxy Note 9 is expected to be officially unveiled sometime in August next year.

Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9+ is rumoured to feature an 18:9 display of 5.8 inches and 6.2 inches respectively, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. Other features include more secure facial recognition (3D sensing) and Water Resistance (IP65 / IP68). Both S9 devices may feature dual camera modules of 16 MP sensors at the rear and another dual camera module with 12 MP camera sensors on front. Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ with code names “Star and Star 2” may début in January 2018.

As with any other leak or rumour, take this with a pinch of salt. Stay tuned at Androidpure and we will keep you updated.
