Samsung investigating Note 7 battery issues, may recall devices soon

Samsung’s latest device, the Galaxy Note 7 is in the spotlight, but not for good reasons. The recently launched phablet, is apparently suffering from some major issues according to some reports.

It recently came to be known that the device which features Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and the back is prone to scratches, and this is because the Glass is more shatter-proof than devices with Gorilla Glass 4.

But that’s kind of trivial, compared to the battery issues which some people have reported. A user from Korea recently reported that the Note 7 exploded while the phone was charging,  and a similar incident was posted by a Chinese user.

While these seem like random incidents, a Samsung employee says that it could be due to faulty batteries in the units. This is what the Samsung official said in an interview with Korea’s YonHap News Agency, (under condition of anonymity).

“The most important thing is the safety of our customers and we don’t want to disappoint our loyal customers. Products installed with the problematic battery account for less than 0.1 percent of the entire volume sold. The problem can be simply resolved by changing the battery, but we’ll come up with convincing measures for our consumers.”

He also says that rumours that Samsung will recall units in the U.S today are unlikely, and that the company is in talks with Carriers and partners to resolve the issue. The same applies to Note 7 devices sold globally as well, which suggests a global recall of the Note 7 is very much likely.

While this may look like a bad thing for the company, Samsung can still save face by putting the consumer’s safety ahead of its pride.
