Android Marshmallow is slowly becoming more popular, as OEMs continue to update their older devices to the latest operating system. Marshmallow now runs on 7.5% of devices, as of May 2016, a major improvement from the 4.6% it held in April.

But it wasn’t the only one to gain numbers, according to Google’s Dashboard. In what seems to be a bizarre scenario, Android 5.0 and 5.1 Lollipop together now hold a 37.4% OS share, which is actually an increase from  the 35.8% in April. Incidentally, the same OS had previously dropped down to 36.1% in the prior month.

KitKat with 32.5%, fell by 0.9% from 33.4%, while Jelly Bean fell from 21.3% to 20.1%. Ice Cream Sandwich which held 2.2%, now sits at 2.0%. Gingerbread also fell from its 2.6% to 2.2%.

Marshmallow’s slow ascend may also be attributed to two factors. The first is the very low adoption rate by major OEMs like OnePlus, Xiaomi, ASUS to name a few. The other, is not that much of a cause, though unquestionably the Android N Preview which is available for Nexus 6 and above, and to some Sony Xperia devices.
