LG G5 with Modular design launched at MWC 16

The LG G5 has been launched at the MWC 16 tech show in Barcelona.

The phone has a full metal body and sports a 5.3-inch QHD IPS Quantum display (2560 x 1440 pixels) and 554ppi pixel density. The phone has an always on display which uses just 0.8 of the battery per hour as it just uses 1/3rd of the screen’s space. It also has adaptive brightness to adjust to the light in the environment.

The G5 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB LPDDR4 RAM and an Adreno 530 GPU, and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. In terms of storage, the phone has 32GB of internal memory and supports up to 2TB of expandable memory with a microSD card slot.

The phone sports a 16 megapixel rear camera (78-degree lens) and a 135 degrees wide angle 8 megapixel lens with LED Flash and Laser auto focus. The LG G5 has an 8 megapixel front camera too. The LG G5 has a USB Type C port, and features a fingerprint scanner on the rear. The phone supports 4G LTE, 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi 802.11 a, b, g, n, ac, NFC and  Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity options.

The G5 has a 2800mAh battery which supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The battery is swappable and can be removed by sliding the bottom of the phone out.

This is part of the LG G5’s modular design (magic slot) which allows users to attach various modules to the device.

In addition to these, the LG G5 also has some companions called LG Friends and includes the following:

  • LG 360 cam – snap a 360 degree picture and share  it with your friends. It also supports Google Street View and YouTube360.
  • LG 360 VR – wearable shades (virtual reality headset)
  • Rolling Bot
  • Tone Platinum Bluetooth Stereo Headset
  • LG Smart Controller for drones
  • H3 by B&O Play earphones

The phone measures at 149.4 x 73.9 x 7.7~8.6mm and weighs at 159g. The LG G5 will be available in 5 colours: Silver, Titan, Gold and Pink.
