Qualcomm announces next gen Snapdragon 600 and 400 processors with advanced LTE

Qualcomm has announced four new processors in it’s Snapdragon 400 and 600 lineup.

The new Snapdragon 620 and Snapdragon 618 processors will have integrated 64-bit ARM Cortex A-72 CPUs and the new X8 LTE Cat 7 modem, with download speeds of up to 300 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 100 Mbps.

The Snapdragon 620 combines 64-bit quad-core ARM Cortex-A72 CPUs and Cortex-A53 cores, while the Snapdragon 618 is configured with two ARM Cortex-A72 cores paired with quad Cortex-A53 CPUs

They will support Dual channel LPDDR3 RAM, and also supports features seen in the Snapdragon 800 tier including: Dual ISP camera, 4K video capture and playback, HEVC hardware encoding, richer gaming with next-generation Qualcomm Adreno graphics and advanced Wi-Fi connectivity, fast-charging with Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 technology.

The Snapdragon 400 series gets it’s first Octa Core CPUs (eight 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 CPUs) with the new Snapdragon 425 and Snapdragon 415 processors. Both chipsets feature the Adreno 405 GPU for high quality graphics and support for Full HD video playback. The 425 has hardware HEVC decode, as well as premium multimedia features such as dual-ISP camera and high-fidelity audio. The Snapdragon 425 will support X8 LTE, while the 415 will support X5 LTE Cat 4, with download speeds of up to 150 Mbps.

The Snapdragon 415 chipset is expected to be in commercial devices in the first half of 2015, while the other three are expected to be in commercial devices in the second half of 2015.
