An Indian news website reports that Google may be launching the Android One platform in India, in a couple of weeks.

Google Android One September 15 India

The Mountain View company had announced the project at the I/O 2014 in June, in a way to promote Android smartphones in the Country.

Google has teamed up with several Indian OEMs, to bring a stock Android experience, in a sub-10,000 Rupees price range. The list of manufacturers who will be making the Android One devices are:

  • Karbonn
  • Micromax
  • Spice

Celkon, HTC, and Intex have also been rumored to be in talks with Google, to manufacture Android One phones.

The phones will be powered by MediaTek processors, and will have a 4.5″ display, support for SD Card, FM Radio, and Dual SIM. Software-wise, they will have a Vanilla OS, auto app installs, and OS updates directly from Google, similar to the Nexus devices.

Accoirding to NDTV, Google has sent out press invites for an event scheduled for September 15th. And they also say that Sundar Pichai Senior Head of Android and Chrome, might be visiting his home Country and launch the devices. Guess that means more competition for the Moto G and E, or should I say the Moto G2, which is heading to India in a possible September 5th launch.
